The Demon Trappers Forsaken Jana Oliver 8601405651518 Books Reviews
Set slightly in the future, Forsaken is a suspenseful, often emotional and most certainly a captivating novel. When life starts going wrong for Riley Blackthorne, it does so in a big way. However, a few friends, a deep devotion to her father and her stubborn nature gets her through the worst.
Although the plot and especially the world building in this book is truly excellent, for me, the wonderfully lifelike and unique characters really brought life and color to the story. Riley Blackthorne, the main character, is devoted to her father, determined to become a demon trapper, and extremely stubborn. She is the kind of female lead that you want to salute with a standing ovation even though you have the urge to roll your eyes at times.
The male protagonist, Denver Beck, is moody and complex and annoys Riley most of the time. The other supporting characters are fleshed out and realistic.
What I particularly liked about Forsaken, was that the demons are not some weird species from some strange universe. No, these demons are the real deal; minions of Lucifer himself. Even the couple of angels who make their appearance in this book are more realistic than so many other fictional accounts of angels.
Another highly attractive feature of Forsaken is the excellent, lively, and often witty dialogue. Even the inner dialogue of the characters, but especially that of Riley, is often hilarious.
For a read that will fascinate you, have you chewing your nails and, maybe even have you weeping a bit, I recommend Forsaken as a truly excellent book. (Ellen Fritz)
In a fully integrated supernatural urban landscape where the paranormal is simply a part of life, in a dystopian future where the economy of the world is entrenched in decline and so far out of reach for the poor and working poor, life becomes cheap and the poor continue to serve the wealthy even after death has ended their short but immensely miserable (living) lives. A society where necromancers raise the dead to serve as free servants for the rich, and where even governments can ill-afford the cost of replacing the spoils of thievery, like essential social services such as traffic lights after they're stolen for their valuable and declining resources. A political climate where corrupt social servants are placed in positions from whence they embezzle the ever declining money so them and their own can avoid the constant struggle to survive faced by most inhabitants.
A story of terrible emotional hardship and the courage visuaged by one coming-of-age young lady as she attempts to rise to meet the challenges of life after being cruelly orphaned in a society that eats the destitute. A story of incurred responsibility when an honourable man sees the death of his mentor as something he couldn't prevent and the resulting guilt that drives his assumed care of the daughter left behind. A story of a guild of trappers marred by their individual experiences of either growing up in a punishing and unforgiving social climate and/or the consequences of working in an industry that deals with absolute evil on a nightly basis. With the many differing but complimentary storylines taking place throughout the novel there's sure to be one, or many, elements that appeal to your reading pleasure. A heart felt and enthralling read you must experience.
This book was alright. But don't get this book and The Demon Trappers Duaghter by the same author thinking they are differant books because they are not. They are the same book just with differant titles. I know because i bought both books and was very disapointed.
