Ray Bradbury is an amazing author. He's best known for his science-fiction (The Martian Chronicles), but most of his work is fantasy or philosophical. This collection of short stories is a good example of the breadth of his style. He takes to places in imagination like no one else can.His writing leaves you feeling good, or thoughtful. I thoroughly recommend this book. It's also an excellent book to get younger reader interested in reading. The short-story format eases them into the pleasures of reading without demanding a long commitment, and leaves them wanting more.

Golden Apples of the Sun The Ray Bradbury 9780380730391 Books Reviews
I have been a Bradbury fan for many years. His prose is poetry. I frequently go back and reread paragraphs for the sheer pleasure of hearing the resonances of the words he chooses. I bought this collection on audio books. I would have preferred to hear the author himself reading, but the actor did an adequate job. The collection has some of Bradbury's best-loved stories, such as The Lighthouse and April Witch. (I don't have the table of contents in front of me so actual titles may vary slightly).
About half these stories are science fantasy (the author's own term), the others are mainstream. Many writers criticize Bradbury for writing with thin plots and I have to say this collection has some examples of that. A few of the stories are just situations without much happening at all. I actually fast forwarded through a couple--something I never imagined doing to a Bradbury story. His science fantasy stories typically have more "story" to them.
Bradbury is best when writing nostalgia fiction. Even his science fiction stories typically appeal to that particular emotion people on Mars and Venus pining for the way things were on Earth, or struggling to recreate on some far-off world what people have managed to destroy here on Earth. There are some gems here that deserve greater than five stars, true classics such as The Sound of Thunder, but also some less-than-stellar pieces that would never have gotten published but for the author's unique voice (and possibly his name recognition). Overall this is a worthy collection though his 100-Best collection is probably the thing to buy.
The Lettering is SO small you need a microscope to read it!!!! A complete waste of 💵💵💵!!!!!
I used to own a copy of this book, but I gave it away. I loved these stories; they are gems, and they should be shared. Now that I have a child who is beginning to read, I wanted to have another copy to share again. The book I received is smaller than I remembered, almost a "pocket edition," measuring 15cm x 10cm, and the text is badly scanned, halftoned, and reduced to 5 lines per centimeter, 40 lines per page. It even looks bad under magnification. Nothing in the product description indicates the dimensions of the book. The print looks like such a thoughtless reproduction that I suspect it might even be counterfeit. I'm returning it. What a waste! I hope published my snapshot of the book with a ruler.
Ray Bradbury's "The Golden Apples of the Sun" short stories have been around for quite a while. Bradbury is Bradbury, a gifted man with an extraordinary imagination, the lyrical writing skill of a poet, and the magic of a master story teller. His stories pull you intuitively into his worlds and carry you along to achieve what Hemingway advocated for fiction writers that they become a part of our experience.
This hardbound edition is unusual in the way that it is beautifully bound. The silver and lime green cover and jacket design repeat within the text where the book title and the capital letters at the beginning of each story are colored the same green. Not a big deal, but nice.
And two of the stories are repeated at the end of the book in the form of plays, duplicated exactly in the form Mr. Bradbury typed them (like photocopies).
Highly recommended, easily worth the money, and then some.
I bought this book as a gift for my nephew. He was VERY excited to get it, until he opened the book and saw that it was impossible to read because the print was so small. Even a magnifying glass would strain the eyes.
This collection contains some of Bradbury’s most famous stories, it’s worth checking just for those, but the entire selection is great.
A classic.
you do not review Ray Bradbury. He is simply one of the greatest imaginative writers in American history.
